At the Commissioners’ meeting on 19 March 2026 the following matters were noted or resolutions made:

The Board noted the contents of the planning appeal decisions seeking consent for the erection of telegraph poles for fibre in PA 25/90402/B 3-6 Ballaquane Park & 41-48 Ballaquane Park; PA25/90400/B 7-13 Ballaquane Park & 21-39 Ballaquane Park; PA 25/90397/B 1-19 Corrins Way & 1-27 Creggans Avenue; and PA 25/90396/B 1-4 Links Close & 17 North View. The Board noted the planning decisions to refuse the use of telegraph poles in Ballquane Park was upheld. The Board noted the decisions to refuse the use of telegraph poles at the other locations in Peel were overturned to allow the use of poles for the provision of fibre services on the recommendation of an independent planning inspector.

The Board unanimously agreed the Oie Voaldyn event organisers could use Fenella Beach Car Park exclusively for their event on either the 3 or 4 May 2026.

The Board noted the content of the Draft Event Strategy developed from the Events and Commercial Innovation Lead Member Committee minutes since the local elections in April 2025. The Board noted it was too late to change the road closure orders for the proposed 2026 TT event which will be held on 4 June 2026. The Board requested further information on the proposed provision of a beach stage to determine the Commissioners’ liabilities and the actual costs before approval can be given to this part of the Draft Event Strategy. This included electricity provision costs; the fees for bands; security/marshalling during events; security of stage when not in use; cleaning after the events; setting a finishing time for the stage use/lighting and insurance cover for this proposal. The Board unanimously agreed the stage should be located at the weatherglass corner end of the beach and not adjacent to slipway opposite the Sailing Club to reduce electric supply issues and costs.  The Board unanimously agreed to approve the content of the draft event strategy up to 2 August 2026 except for the stage which required further information.

The Board noted the draft traffic order for off street parking in the Commissioners’ Derby Road Car Park will be advertised in the Courier this weekend (19 March 2026) and a copy will be available at the Town Hall.
