At the Commissioners Board meeting on 19 February 2026 the following Board resolutions were agreed:

A meeting was arranged with the Minister for Infrastructure to discuss a number of issues including the Local Government Amendment Bill and the draft Waste Strategy.

The Board agreed to lodge an appeal against the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture’s planning  approval decision to extend the use of the Marina silt lagoon in Peel (Planning Application 24/00301/B) until 31 December 2027. The Commissioners’ appeal would be based on the objection lodged by the Commissioners to this application on 1 September 2025.

The Board deferred a decision on playground refurbishment funding until the Commissioners’ playground strategy is approved. This is scheduled to take place by 31 December 2026.

The Board did not change the existing approved duties for which allowances could be paid to Commissioners for attendance at Lead Member Committee and Board meetings.

The Board agreed the pathway to house homeless persons on the Island and the funding for this provision should rest with Government and not individual local Authorities.

The Board agreed the current Director of Public Health role should remain unchanged and the proposed new Chief Public Health role, similar to that which exists in neighbouring jurisdictions, is not required. The Board cited the more successful response to covid during the pandemic on the Island as evidence the current system is more efficient and cost effective.

The Board agreed not change the statutory requirements for recording declaration of interests prior to the amendment of this legislation by the Local Government Amendment Bill.
